As all of you know, Union Public Service Commission conducts this Civil Services examination (CSE) each and every year to recruit IAS/IPS/IFS and other Group “A” officers at all India level. The civil services recruitment process is carried out through two different phases – First Phase is IAS Prelims Exam, Second Phases is IAS Mains Exam and Interview Round.

IAS Civil Services Exam Pattern

IAS CSE Examination is conducted for to select the Higher grade officers (Group A) for Indian Administrative services by Union Public Service Commission. This IAS Civil Services Exam Pattern talks about the distribution of number of questions, what is the marking schemes, what is the sectional weightage of subjects, and time duration of the said exam. Lets talk about all three phases of IAS exam:

IAS Civil Services Preliminary Exam: IAS Prelims consist of two papers of multiple choice questions (objective) type and carries a maximum marks of 400 means each paper weightage is 200. Candidates must score total qualifying marks or cut off marks (in General Studies Paper -I) determined by the Commission. In Paper-II (CSAT), candidates must score a minimum of 33% marks of the total marks to qualify for the next stage (IAS Mains Exam).

IAS Civil Services Mains Exam: The IAS Main Examination will consist of written examination (Subjective Type) and an interview personality test. In this IAS written examination, there will be 9 papers including 2 language papers. These 2 language papers will be of qualifying in nature. Marks obtained in all the compulsory papers (excluding 2 language papers) and Marks obtained in Interview will be counted for final ranking.

IAS Civil Services Personality Test: An interview or Personality test of 275 Marks would be taken of the all the candidates, who qualified in the IAS Civil services mains examination.
